About Workshop and Course
“Introduction to GIS and Mapping using QGIS” is a value-added technical course, designed for people who want to learn GIS skills using the Open Source GIS package Quantum GIS (QGIS) is an effective alternative to the widely used commercial software package ArcGIS. The workshop is basically aimed at Research Scholars and students pursuing their Postgraduate studies. However, Faculty members are also encouraged to apply for the workshop. Candidates will be shortlisted based on their application and CV.
E-Certificate will be issued for all participants by the Novel Research Academy.
Prerequisite for attending the workshop:
All participants are expected to bring their own laptops with QGIS installed through online classes. The latest version of QGIS can be downloaded from the following website: https://qgis.org/en/site/. This workshop is open to participants of any domain including engineering, technology, life sciences, diploma, ecology and social sciences. However, this workshop content will be more oriented towards Biological Sciences, Life Sciences, and Ecology & Environmental Sciences. Preliminary knowledge in GIS and mapping is not a requirement for attending the course.
What will you learn from the workshop
- Understand the basic principles of Geographic Systems GIS (GIS)
- Gain familiarity with QGIS software
- Creating maps using QGIS
- Carrying out basic spatial analysis in QGIS
